Dr. Beatriz Miranda Mail

Beatriz Miranda has a Doctorate in Disability Studies from Leeds University, and teaches Disability and Development at the Athena Institute, VU University Amsterdam, and International Public Health at the Amsterdam University College, Netherlands. She is Project Manager of the SARI Project of the Athena Institute, a randomized controlled trial of interventions aimed at reducing the impact of stigma on the lives of people affected by leprosy and related impairments in Indonesia.


Dr. Miranda has been involved in the field of disability and development, working with international development cooperation in Latin America since 1994. She has participated in academic research pertaining to the lives of people labelled as intellectually disabled, in Belgium, India, China, Ecuador and Columbia. Her main fields of interest are: family, ethnicity, postcolonial issues, intellectual disability, disability research and ethics.
